Mary Ann Smith joined Our Lady Queen of Heaven School in the Spring of 2013 as the Spanish enrichment teacher for first through eighth grades.
She has a B.S. in Home Economics from McNeese State University, a linguistics certification from Defense Language Institute of Monterey, and a Masters in Arts of Teaching with concentrations in foreign languages from McNeese State University.

She is married to retired U.S. Army Major Jeffrey D. Smith and has three adult children. The military enabled her family to travel and live in Mexico, residing in Mexico City for three years. While there, she worked for USAID and as the Commissary Manager of the American Embassy. Since her husband was in Civil Affairs, the family communicated with the nationals and hosted many gatherings as a way to build relationships with the Mexican dipomats and families. Through those experiences, she not only acquired the Spanish language but was able to be immersed in the culture and celebrate the traditions.

Her daughter, Sra. Katie Fournet is currently teaching Spanish AP at St. Louis Catholic High School, is the World Languages Coordinator, and Academic Advisor. Her son, Jared Smith, is in medical school at LSU Shreveport, and her youngest, Jake Smith is attending LA Tech in Ruston, majoring in Cyber Engineering. All three children attended OLQHS. She also has two grandchildren with her grandson attending OLQHS. Interests When she is not busy speaking and teaching Spanish, she also enjoys teaching tap dance and leads yoga classes as a national certified yoga alliance instructor in her spare time.
